The mission of Clear Lake City Elementary School, the heart of Clear Lake tradition and the home of pioneering education, is to build a safe and trusting community where each person takes ownership of his or her learning, develops confidence, and explores his or her unique interests and talents through nurturing relationships distinguished by a passion for developing life-long learners and leaders of character where all are welcomed, wanted, and worthwhile.

Our CLCE Character Journey

Our character journey began 52 years ago. Our founding principal, Kenneth Royal, set the foundation on which our core values were built. He hired for character, seeing our faculty as ambassadors in the community. He created our slogan, "Where All Children are Welcome, Wanted, and Worthwhile".

Over ten years ago our district asked schools to build character using the Six Pillars of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Five years ago our school began an initiative to be intentional in developing and recognizing character in our students. We began a more intensive character program to welcome new family members to our community of character.

Our behavior committee became our Character Committee as parents and students joined. We sent surveys to students, parents and faculty, developed relationships with community organizations, expanded time spent during school on character instruction and used Core Value words when communicating with students, families and community.

We have been influenced by our school’s history, a Character Counts workshop and our Blending Learning initiative for which we are the pilot campus. We are honored to be recognized as a 2017 Texas State School of Character and are excited to continue developing character education at CLCE!
